Giving it more time

After much deliberation, we decided to give the baby girl a little bit more time in her comfy womb home. We have postponed the planned c-section, which the doctor was more than happy to do, to next Thursday, July 30th at 2:30 pm. This is much closer to our due date of July 31st. If I go into labor before Thursday, she will make an early appearance.

We feel really relaxed and happy about the decision to wait a little longer and now have a few more days that are errand-free to just relax and prepare ourselves to welcome our daughter into the world. We can't wait!

Update from the doctor...

We had our 36 week ultrasound today and everything looked healthy. My weight and blood pressure are great, the baby's heartbeat is looking good and she looks good, including a long femur bone (she's tall! at least for now, the doctor said it doesn't necessarily mean she'll be tall as an adult, just a tall baby). She's weighing in at approximately 6 lbs. right now.

The not-so-good news is we found out the baby is in a breech position. What that means is I have about 3 and 1/2 weeks to get her to turn head down. I am going to try moxibustion and a variety of daily exercises. I'm also going to look into the chiropractic Webster technique. Your positive thoughts and prayers will help! I was really disappointed to hear this and I am praying that she will turn so we can have a shot at a natural delivery. If she doesn't turn by the time I go into labor, they will have to do a c-section. So keep those positive vibes coming our way! Also, if you have any advice or success stories to share, please let me know by posting a comment.

Getting close...

Wow, where has time gone?! I'm sorry I haven't made any updates in 24 days! It's been a really busy and exciting time. Last week, I had my whole family in town for our baby shower in Austin. My Mom and Dad (El Paso), cousin Monica (Chicago), sister Marissa (Seattle), and Adam's Dad (Houston) all came into town. Along with family and friends that live in Austin, we celebrated at my Aunt and Uncle's beautiful new home! You can see my Aunt Denise's great photo album from the shower here.

Having family in town was sooo much fun and a HUGE help! We got the nursery all set-up, the house cleaned up and my Dad helped with some house projects. The house is all ready for baby! Here's a sneak peek of the nursery. I'll upload a 360-view once we put some final touches on it.

Adam and I are almost done with our birthing classes. Our final class is this Sunday and we will cover c-sections, what to expect right after delivery and (finally!) a tour of the labor and delivery rooms.

Adam's Mom is coming into town today and we will be celebrating her birthday and then she and Adam will head off to Beaumont, TX to attend Adam's cousin's wedding. I will be treating myself to a trip to Target to buy some things for the birth, i.e. a cute robe.

I had a doctor's appointment Tuesday and she said everything is still looking great. Due to my short torso, my uterus has reached it's vertical limits and the doctor said to expect to grow OUT from this point on. This should be fun! I can barely get up as it is now. On July 7th, we will have our next ultrasound so the doctor can check the baby's position and fluid levels. They will also start to check for any dilation. It's really happening! Here's the babycenter updates for the last few weeks and tomorrow, when I will be 35 weeks!

Now, the interactive part of the blog... We started palying this game this weekend. Post a comment to this entry with your guess on the due date and baby's weight. If you'd like, you can throw in your guess on the name. At this point, your guess is as good as ours. No money is involved, just bragging rights :)

Birthing classes begin

We are at 31 weeks now (exactly 7 months yesterday) and it's getting real now. We're super excited, but I think as Adam gets more excited I get more anxious (as I look at my expanding belly and start thinking about labor). We went to our first birthing class yesterday at St. David's central where we will be delivering. It was a little slow, but informative. Adam, finally for the 1st time in his life, saw a birth on video. He looked a little scared and almost threw up, but he made it! It's the 1st of 4 classes we will take. Yesterday was all about anatomy of pregnancy and the stages of labor. Class 2 will cover relaxation and breathing, Class 3 will be pain medication and C-section and the last class we'll take a tour of the labor and delivery area. In addition to the birthing classes, we will also take 1 baby care class and 1 breastfeeding class.

It was a busy weekend and we made good progress on the nursery. Once we get another work weekend in, we will post pictures so you can see it almost done!

This weekend we said goodbye to Father Joe, our much loved pastor at St. Ignatius. He is being called to another assignment in Santiago, Chile after being our pastor for 6 years. It was an emotional Sunday and of course I cried. I'm sad he won't get to meet our baby once she's born, but I told Adam we might just have to plan an excursion to South America when the baby gets a little older :) We met our new pastor, Father Bill and I told him I expect weekly baby belly blessings like Father Joe would give us. He was happy to oblige. He seems really nice and our baby should be in good hands for baptism.

Here's the latest baby update. She is getting bigger and I definitely feel it. She likes to kick me at night when I lay down and am trying to fall asleep. 31 weeks babycenter update

Happy Memorial Day!

We had a wonderful holiday weekend that we spent with family (Lauren's dance recital) and friends (CRHP retreat and Stephanie and Chris' BBQ) and of course each other! We had a nice, quiet, romantic dinner last night courtesy of Adam. We had his famous lime chicken with mango pepper salad (mmm), avocado and black beans. The quiet moments are nice and we're soaking it in before our life becomes more lively, in a VERY good way! We cannot believe she'll be here in about 2 months!

I went to the doctor this morning for a check-up and everything looks great. My weight, blood pressure, belly measurement and the baby's heartbeat are all perfectly on target. We are very blessed! In 6 weeks, we'll get an ultrasound at the doctor's office to check the baby's estimated size, the fluid and to see if her head is down. That is crazy! I feel like things are happening so fast now. I've included an updated belly photo. It's definitely getting bigger now!

May Showers!

It has been a long time since I posted, and I have lots of updates and fun things to share! We had our first baby shower in El Paso and it was a surprise! We had a great time, got to see family and friends, ate Mexican food and had lots of cake and lots of presents to open. The Moms (Donna and Leti) and Cathy & Ron outdid themselves!Back in Austin, my co-workers and friends threw us another baby shower. We played some very fun games (yes, Melissa proved to me that baby shower games can be fun and hilarious!), super yummy food and great company. It felt great to know we have such amazing friends in our life. Our baby will be surrounded by such amazing people, she's very lucky.
We made the decision that it would be best for me to take some time off before the baby arrives, so my last day of work was May 15th. So far, the time off has been nice and I look forward to getting the house in order, getting some exercise and preparing the baby's nursery.

I've skipped a lot of babycenter updates, so I've listed them hear so you can go back and read up. This Friday, I will be 30 weeks! I can't believe it. Ten more weeks to go. I am officially in my thrid trimester and I still feel good. A little bit more nausea and acid reflux at times, but not too bad.
